Cookie Policy

Last updated: June 22, 2026

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage to store preferences and identifiers.

2. How We Use Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, prevent abuse, remember your preferences, and understand how our service is used. We classify them into the categories below.

3. Cookie Categories

Necessary

These cookies and stored values are essential for the service to function and for fraud/abuse prevention. They cannot be disabled.

  • guest_id — Identifies your guest session so you can access your transcriptions. Stored as an HTTP-only cookie. Retained until you clear cookies or the guest profile is cleaned up.
  • Browser fingerprint hash — A one-way SHA-256 hash of your User-Agent, language, timezone, and platform. Used only to enforce free usage quotas and prevent cookie-clearing abuse. Retained on your guest profile for the lifetime of the profile.
  • cookie_consent — Stores your cookie consent choice in localStorage. Retained until you clear browser storage.

Analytics

We use two tiers of analytics:

Vercel Web Analytics— A lightweight, cookieless analytics service that collects aggregate pageview data (page path, referrer, browser, country). No cookies are set and no consent is required. Data is retained per Vercel's standard retention policy. This is always active.

The following analytics tools require your explicit consent. They are only loaded after you grant analytics consent:

  • Google Analytics— Usage analytics. Retention is configured per Google's default policies (typically 2 months for user-level data).
  • Microsoft Clarity— Session recordings and heatmaps. Retention aligns with Microsoft's policies.
  • PostHog— Product analytics. Retention aligns with PostHog's policies.

Marketing

Marketing cookies are used for personalized advertising. They are disabled in this version of KovaVox.

4. IP Address Usage

We store IP addresses in our server logs and in the free_usage_log table solely for rate limiting and abuse detection. IP records are retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted.

5. Managing Your Choices

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the cookie banner or using your browser settings to clear cookies and local storage.
